Cirillo Supports Use of Township Open Space Monies to Secure Ardmore Lot for Use as Public Park

June 21, 2007
LETTER TO THE EDITOR (Main Line Times)

To the Editor:
On this week’s Open Space Committee agenda, an item deals with an authorization for Lower Merion Township to proceed with negotiations to acquire approximately 1.04 acres of land at 50 Linwood Avenue in Ardmore for use as open space. Subsequent to a successful negotiation, a separate approval from the Board of Commissioners would be required to authorize the purchase of the property. Everyone seems to be in favor of neighborhood preservation and open space. At Linwood and East Athens Avenue a unique opportunity exists to act, and secure a parking lot that can be used as a Township park. The money is available in County Open Space funds and the lot is presently for sale. A Township park will have an undeniably positive impact in Ardmore, a community currently under-served with open space.

Both the residents in Ardmore and the broader community at large support such a purchase. I believe that the timing is right to move forward. I strongly urge the Commissioners to aggressively pursue this unique open space opportunity. I understand the community has been asked to raise money for the effort, and therefore, I pledge $250.00 from the “Friends of Greg Cirillo” to support this effort.
